If you’ve ever wondered why we sometimes show the same movie multiple weekends in a row at Rainbow Theater, here’s the inside scoop. As a one-screen, independently operated theater, our movie schedule is a little different than the big multiplexes — and it all comes down to contracts and commitments with major movie studios.
When we show a movie on its national release date, we’re required by the film studios (like Disney, Warner Bros., and Universal) to hold that movie exclusively for at least two weekends. That means no switching things up midway or squeezing in a second movie — the screen belongs 100% to that film.
If the movie performs well (and Thunderbolts has), the studio may extend that requirement to a third weekend. That’s exactly what’s happening this weekend. Thunderbolts has had decent turnout and positive feedback, so we are contractually required to keep it rolling for another round.
Because Rainbow Theater only has one screen, each weekend becomes a dedicated run for the film we’ve booked. It’s part of what makes us different — more curated and community-focused — but also why we can’t always show every new release right away.
So yes, Thunderbolts is back for its third weekend, and we hope you’ll join us for another action-packed showing. And if you’re waiting for the next big movie — it’s coming soon. Thanks for supporting your hometown theater and helping us bring the magic of movies to Castroville each week!
